Paterson River

Confluence of the Allyn River a the Paterson River at Vacy

The Paterson River is a river in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales. It rises in the Barrington Tops National Park, flows south and empties between Hinton and Mopeth in the Hunter River. Between Hinton and Duns Creek it forms the border between the Local Government Areas Port Stephens Council and Maitland City.

Colonel William Paterson measured the area along the river 1801. Later Governor King named in his honor.

The river winds through fertile farmlands of the Paterson Valley. The Lake Lostock was 48 km below the source in 1971. The New South Wales Department of Water Resources had built Tops him to land irrigation in Barrington.
