Patrick Lipton Robinson

Patrick Lipton Robinson ( born January 29, 1944, Jamaica) is a Jamaican Crown Counsel and Judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia ( ICTY), which he was president from November 2008 to November 2011.

Life

After acquiring the Bachelor's degree in London in 1964 and the attainment of a bachelor 's degree with honors there in 1968 Robinson was 1968 Crown Counsel in Jamaica. This activity he held at various Jamaican authorities until 1998. In addition, Robinson was in the years 1972 and 1973 Advisor to the Jamaican Minister of Foreign Affairs and represented Jamaica from 1972 to 1998 at the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly of the United Nations. In addition, he headed from 1981 to 1998 various Jamaican delegations for the development of international treaties.

In addition, Robinson was from 1988 to 1995 a member of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, which he was president in 1991. He was also from 1991 to 1996 member of the International Law Commission, and from 1995 to 1996 foreign member of the Haitian Truth and Justice Commission. In addition, Robinson was on in 1997 Jamaican Ambassador to the annual meeting of the General Assembly of the United Nations and the Third United Nations Law of the Sea Conference and Chairman of the twelfth session of UNCTAD. Since 1996, Robinson has been a member of the International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO.

On November 16, 1998 Patrick Robinson was appointed a judge of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia ( ICTY). On 4 November 2008 he was elected at an extraordinary plenary session of the ICTY judges College President of the ICTY. This office he held from 17 November 2008 to 17 November 2011. In December 2011 he was elected judge of the International Residualmechanismus for the ad hoc criminal tribunals, which acts as a common successor institution of the ICTY and the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in July 2012.
