Patrick Michaels

Patrick J. Michaels ( * February 15, 1950 ) is an American climatologist, a senior fellow at the Cato Institute and professor emeritus in the field of Environmental Sciences at the University of Virginia.

Michaels was president of the American Association of State Climatologists and Head of the Committee for Applied Climatology of the American Meteorological Society. He is a former co-author and reviewer of expertise reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Michael studied biology and plant ecology at the University of Chicago and received his PhD in 1979 in ecological climatology from the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

In the controversy over global warming it is one of the skeptics that believe that man-made global warming is not particularly serious, and in some areas even positive. He has published on the subject in addition to scientific publications, a number of popular science books and is a regular participant in the American mass media.

The co-authored by him World Climate Report is published by the non-profit organization Greening Earth Society, which in turn was founded by the Western Fuels Association.

Critics say the climate skepticism for Michaels is " quite lucrative business " has become. One of his studies was co-financed with about $ 98,000 from the General Association of German coal industry.
