Patrick Murphy (Pennsylvania politician)

Patrick Joseph Murphy (born 19 October 1973, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Between 2007 and 2011 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Patrick Murphy visited the Bucks County Community College in Newtown and then the King's College in Wilkes -Barre, among others, until 1991. After that, he was a cadet in the training program of the U.S. Army, he served in their Reserve after graduating. After a subsequent law school and admission to the bar he began to work in his new profession. Since 2000 he has been active in the army. He has lectured at various military schools, including the United States Military Academy at West Point. After the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, he volunteered for deployment abroad in the legal department of the army. He was initially stationed in Bosnia and then in Iraq. He held the rank of captain. In 2004 he finished his military service in Fort Bragg ( North Carolina).

Politically, Murphy joined the Democratic Party. In the congressional elections of 2006 he was in the eighth electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Republican Mike Fitzpatrick took on 3 January 2007, he had beaten in the election. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 2011, two legislative sessions. He sat in the Appropriations Committee and the Committee for the intelligence services, as well as in six sub-committees. In the congressional elections of 2010, Murphy defeated his predecessor Fitzpatrick. In 2012 he ran for the office of Attorney General of Pennsylvania, but lost in the Democratic primary against the eventual winner of the election, Kathleen Kane.

Since the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Patrick Murphy works as a lawyer with the Philadelphia-based law firm Fox Rothschild. He also holds occasional lectures at the Widener University School of Law.
