Patrick Zimmerli

Patrick Zimmerli (* 1968 in New York) is an American tenor saxophonist and composer of the Modern Creative and contemporary music.

Patrick Zimmerli attended high school in West Hartford, Connecticut and worked from 1986 in the New York jazz scene; In the early 1990s, among others with drummer Jeff Williams. Since 1995, he took with his trio with bassist Ben Monder and drummer Satashi Tekeishi a series of albums for the label Songlines and Arabesque on. In 1996 he worked with the Jazz Composers Collective, for which he wrote Twelve Sacred Dances.

In the 2000s, Zimmerli concentrated its activities more on composing; he wrote among other things, chamber music for the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and composed for Kevin Hays and Brad Mehldau. 2007 Zimmerli wrote eight pieces for cello, piano, percussion and cellist Kristina Reiko Electronics for Cooper (Stone & Steel, Koch 2008); also a piece for solo violin. Zimmerli also worked for radio, TV and film productions.

From 2002 to 2005 Zimmerli was Composer in Residence at the metamorphoses Chamber Orchestra. His music has been, inter alia, listed in the MoMA and the Guggenheim Museum.

Zimmerli was teaching at Columbia University, where he had the 1990 Bachelor, Master 1996 and 2000 earned the Doctor of Music Arts.
