Paul Bazelaire

Paul Bazelaire ( born March 4, 1886 in Sedan, † December 11, 1958 in Paris) was a French cellist.

Life

With seven years was Bazelaire students of the College Turenne in Sedan, as Jean -Nicolas -Henri Clarinval, director of the Société Philharmonique of Sedan, was aware of him. With ten years he moved to the Paris Conservatoire in the class of Jules Delsart. Already at the age of eleven, he won a first prize for his virtuoso cello playing. He received more awards for his skills in harmony, counterpoint and fugue. His first concert was Paul Bazelaire on 18 December 1897 in his native city of Sedan.

In the class of Xavier Leroux, he won the age of seventeen the first prize in harmony. The last compositional subtleties regarding counterpoint and fugue he worked to complete his studies, together with Georges Caussade, and Charles Lenepveu. In both disciplines, he again won a first prize at age 19. In the composer and organist Louis Vierne he acquired beyond the organ, and was also in this discipline after only a few months successfully.

In 1918, he received a 32 -year-old reputation as a professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur in Paris. Here he impressed both with a skillful pedagogy as with his virtuosic playing, so the Conservatory attracted numerous students, including for example Pure Flachot. In his death, in 1958 Paul Bazelaire worked on arrangements for two cellos and harp. The trio consisted of his second wife Monique Viaudez and their two daughters.

Monument

More by chance was in Berlin a monument to the physiognomy of the young Bazelaire. The sculptor August Kraus had the task of the monument Group 9 design for the Siegesallee with the last Askanische Margrave Heinrich the child in the center.
