Paul Billerbeck

Paul Billerbeck ( born April 4, 1853 in Bad Schönfließ, Neumark, † 23 December in Frankfurt on the Oder, 1932) was a Protestant pastor, theologian and Judaic scholar.

Paul Billerbeck was the owner of the parishes in the Neumark Zielenzig and in Brandenburg Heiner village. Alongside he dealt scientifically with Judaism. At the suggestion of the Berlin theology professor Hermann Leberecht Strack he created a compilation of the entire rabbinic material for the New Testament and translated the texts into German.

The Complete Works "Commentary on the New Testament from the Talmud and Midrash " was published in the 1920s by his mentor Strack, the manuscript is now in the Ernst- Moritz- Arndt- University of Greifswald. The eight -volume work still belongs to the scientific literature and is at CH Beck moved to Munich.

In recognition of his scientific work Billerbeck was awarded by the University of Greifswald and the theological from the University of Konigsberg, the philosophical doctorate.
