Paul Grégoire

Paul Cardinal Grégoire ( born October 24, 1911 in Verdun, Canada, † 30 October 1993 in Montreal ) was Archbishop of Montréal.

Life

Paul Grégoire completed his studies in Montréal with a degree in Theology and Literature, with doctorates in philosophy and history, as well as a Diploma in Education. In 1937 he received the Sacrament of Holy Orders and became after further study between 1942 Director of the Institute of Blanville. In the years 1944-1950 he taught also at the Pedagogical Institute and at a secondary school in Montreal. From 1950 to 1961, he provided the task of the university chaplain for the university students in Montreal.

1961 he was appointed by Pope John XXIII. Titular Bishop of Curubis and Auxiliary Bishop of Montréal, where he also true in 1967 took on the task of the Vicar General. 1968 Pope Paul VI appointed him. Archbishop of Montréal. Pope John Paul II took Paul Grégoire 1988 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Nostra Signora del Holy Sacrament and Saints Martyrs canadesi to the College of Cardinals. Paul Grégoire died in 1993 in Montreal and was buried in the local cathedral.

He was received by Cardinal Grand Master Eugène Tisserant in the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem in 1968.
