Paul Krüger (jurist)

Paul Kruger ( born March 20, 1840 in Berlin, † May 11, 1926 in Bonn ) was a German legal scholar and professor of Roman Law. Significantly Kruger is today primarily for his editions of the Roman legal sources (institutions, Codex Justinian, the Theodosian Code ) and by his participation in Theodor Mommsen's great Digest issue.

Life

The son of a dance teacher studied after high school from 1858 to 1860 jurisprudence in Berlin. In 1861 he was in Berlin for Dr. jur. doctorate. 1864 Habilitation Kruger in Berlin for Roman Law. In 1864 he was Mommsen's employees for the Digest issue. 1872 went Kruger as an associate professor of law at Marburg. In 1871 he was appointed full professor in Marburg. In 1872 he was appointed to Innsbruck. 1873 Kruger received a full professorship in Königsberg. In office year of 1883/84 he was appointed Rector ( officially: Vice-Rector ) of the University of Königsberg selected. 1888 went Kruger as a professor in Bonn. 1890 he was appointed a Privy Councillor. In September 1919 Kruger was given emeritus status.

Work

From Kruger still relevant today expenditure of the institutions and the Codex of Justinian Justinian come. After the death of Mommsen, he took over the new editions of the small Digest editions (since the 11th edition 1908), in which he einarbeitete about Interpolationsverdächtigungen.

After Kruger had worked 20 years at the Theodosian Code, he had to leave the Mommsen 1898 Edition. This led to resentment in the relationship between the two. From 1920 Kruger began then still, on Mommsen's edition to make his own follow opposite Mommsen has the particular advantage that the Constitutions, which are obtained only by the Codex Justinian, were incorporated. Kruger came but only until the eighth book, as it tore the death of the work.
