Paul Lange (canoeist)

Paul Lange ( born February 6, 1931 in Oberhausen ) is a former German canoeist. He was in Rome in 1960 Olympic champion.

The trained masons started for the Turnerschaft Sterkrade 1869 in canoe racing. 1957 belonged to the German Long 4x500 - meter relay in one kayak and won at the European Championships in Ghent silver. In 1958 he became German champion in one kayak on the 500 - meter track. At the World Championships 1958 he won jointly with Meinrad Miltenberger, Fritz Briel and Helmut heart gold in the relay and with Meinrad Miltenberger bronze in double kayak. In 1959, Lange European champion in the relay.

1960 Long won his second national title in the one-person kayak over 500 meters. For the 1960 Olympics on the Lake Albano two canoeists were reported from the Federal Republic and with Günter pearl mountain and Dieter Krause two canoeists from the GDR for the season with Friedhelm Wentzke and Paul Long. The squadron won gold and was the most successful all-German team. 1961 Long was again European Champion in the relay.

Long is the only Olympic gold medalist, who hails from Oberhausen.
