Paul MacDonald

Christopher Paul MacDonald ( born January 8, 1960 in New Zealand ) is a former New Zealand canoeist. He won five medals at the Olympic Games, including three gold and one of the world 's most successful athletes of New Zealand.

Career

At the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, the canoeists from the Eastern bloc were missing because of the Olympic boycott. This benefited the New Zealand canoeists. Until 1984, a New Zealander had never won an Olympic medal in Los Angeles, she won four of five gold medals in the kayak. Paul MacDonald won with Ian Ferguson, the distance over 500 meters in a double kayak. Both canoeists then sat still in the quad, where they won gold along with Grant Bramwell and Alan Thompson.

By winning the world title in the double kayak over 500 meters in 1985 proved Ferguson and MacDonald that they could exist even if all countries were at the start. At the 1987 World Championships MacDonald and Ferguson won over 1000 meters and won silver over 500 meters. MacDonald was also in one-person kayak over 500 meters world champion.

At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul Ferguson and MacDonald won gold and silver over 500 meters above 1000 meters. MacDonald was also the one-person kayak final over 500 meters, where she won bronze. 1992 MacDonald joined on both individual sections and with the now 40 -year-old Ferguson on the two person stretches, but could only in two over 1000 meters to reach the final and occupy space 8.

After his retirement from competitive sport of trained physical education teachers began a career as a producer of sports broadcasts for television.
