Paul Mahoney (English judge)

Paul John Mahoney ( born September 6, 1946 in London ) is a British lawyer, judge and former president of the jurisdiction of the Civil Service of the European Union ( EuGD ).

Life

He studied law at the University of Oxford and University College London. From 1974 to 1990 he worked for human rights in the administration of the European Court of Justice. He then worked for three years as a staff conductor for EUR Europe. In 1993 he returned to the management of the European Court of Human Rights. He was appointed Registrar of the Court in 2001.

Mahoney was appointed on 6 October 2005 to the judge and the first president of the newly established jurisdiction of the Civil Service of the European Union. His term ended on October 6, 2011. On June 27, he was elected judge at the European Court of Human Rights. A position he took up on 1 November 2012.
