Paul Monash

Paul Monash ( born June 14, 1917 in Harlem, New York City; † 14 January 2003 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American screenwriter and film producer.

Life

Paul Monash was born the son of silent film actress Rhoda Melrose in Harlem, New York and later grew up in the Bronx. He later received his bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin -Madison and a master's degree at Columbia University. As an emerging writer, he later joined the United States Merchant Marine and drove through the country. He was looking for the right material to write the Great American Novel. During the Second World War, he wrote for the United States Army and then he spent three years in Greenwich Village to find the right story. This was followed by more years in Paris, where he devoted himself to the art. Although he found the right material, but not the right words, so he was not looking at how brave we live his published novel as successful.

However, he began to write for the radio and was able to celebrate his start in the television landscape with a script for the TV series Foreign Intrigue. There followed several screenplays for other series and the screenplay for the film Operation Manhunt, before he managed greater success as a screenwriter with movies like extra leaf, on the Western Front and Stalin. In parallel, he also worked as a film producer and produced such films as Two bandits, Carrie - In Satan's youngest daughter and Big Trouble in Little China.

In 2000 he was awarded the Laurel Award from the Writers Guild of America for his life's work. He commented that he only regretted that he had never written the great novel.
