Paul Pena

Paul Pena ( born January 26, 1950 in Hyannis, Massachusetts, † October 1, 2005 in San Francisco, California ) was an American blues musician.

Life

The by glaucoma from childhood blind and seated in a wheelchair blues musician Paul Pena was known internationally by the Oscar nominated documentary Genghis Blues ( Roko Belic, 1999). Due to its extremely deep voice, he was also called "Earthquake ". He mastered the art of singing the Khöömej ( overtone singing ) and was a master of Kargyraa ( undertone ). In 1995 he won the international competition Khöömej in Kyzyl, Tuva, the audience award. He wrote among other things, the hit " Jet Airliner" by the Steve Miller Band landed a hit. His gained attention through the fame led to his 1973 album recorded " New Train" was finally released on 26 September 2000 on CD. On this album played among other Jerry Garcia, Merle Saunders, and The Persuasions as a guest musician. In his youth, Paul learned piano, guitar, bass, violin and a little trumpet. He played and sang popular jazz and Cape Verdean ballads with his father, a professional jazz musician. Later, Paul played with many blues greats, John Lee Hooker, BB King, Muddy Waters, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Big Bones and T -Bone Walker.
