Paul-Philippe de Chaumont

Paul -Philippe de Chaumont (* 1617, † March 24, 1697 in Paris) was a librarian and bishop of Dax.

Life

De Chaumont came from an old noble family, which was located in Vexin; his father was a royal librarian. About his mother he was, inter alia, related to Germain, Henri and Philippe Habert. This, as well as its relationship to Chancellor Pierre Séguier helped him to pave the way for the Académie française. In the spring of 1654 de Chaumont was then taken as the successor to Jacques de Serisay of the Academy ( armchair 3). After his death in 1697 then the historian Louis cousin took his place.

Later cousin broke from his father as royal librarian and held this office until 1671. In that year he was appointed bishop of Dax. He held until 1684 this office.
