Paul Saladin Leonhardt

Paul Saladin Leonhardt ( born November 13, 1877 in Poznan, † 14 December 1934 in Königsberg ) was a German chess master.

Leonhardt was one of the beginning of the last century the strongest chess players in Germany. His greatest successes in international tournaments were the 1903 victory in the tournament in Hilversum, 1904, the 2nd place in London ( behind Teichmann ), 1905 1st place in Hamburg, in 1907, 3rd place in Karlovy Vary ( behind Rubinstein and Maroczy ) and 1907 be 1st place in Copenhagen. A race against Nimzowitsch, 1911 in Hamburg, he won clearly 4-0 in a draw. At the German Championships 1922 in Bad Oeynhausen, he finished 6th place and 1929 in Duisburg 2nd place ( behind Ahues ).

Until 1922 Leonhardt lived in Leipzig, where he had studied, after which he moved to Königsberg. Here he promoted the game of chess as a chess teacher, by broadcasting lectures and simultaneous exhibitions. It is known to Konigsberg broadcast tournament from 1926, which he organized and won.

From professional Leonhardt was a journalist, among other things, he oversaw the chess section of the Hamburg news. In 1913 he published the book to the Spanish game (see also Spanish game ). Leonhardt died in 1934 during a game of chess at the Königsberg city championship in a heartbeat.
