Paul Scheerbart

Paul Carl Wilhelm Scheer Beard ( born January 8, 1863 in Gdansk, † October 15, 1915 in Berlin), also known by his pseudonym Kuno Cooper and Cooper Bruno, was a German writer of fantastic literature and draftsman.

Life

Paul Scheer Beard began in 1885 to study philosophy and art history. From 1887, he lived as a poet in Berlin and tried to invent perpetual motion. In 1892 he founded the " German publishing visionaries ." All his life he was in financial difficulties. According to various publications, including in the journal Combat, his novel gave him the great revolution which appeared in 1902 in the Insel Verlag, recognition in literary circles, but to achieve without significant sales figures. The young Rowohlt moved in 1909 Scheerbart quirky collection of poems hangover poetry as one of the first books of the Rowohlt publishing. The final line of the poem reads Be gentle and scornfully: "Character is only stubbornness. Long live the gypsy! " This verse used Rowohlt often quote.

Scheerbart imaginative essays on glass architecture influenced the then young architects like Bruno Taut, but also Walter Benjamin's Arcades Project. Benjamin in 1917 wrote an admiring essay on the book Lesabéndio, which, as some works Scheerbart, plays on distant planets. At the Berlin circle of friends and drinkers also Erich difficulty, the Scheerbart belonged in his memories Unpolitischen a chapter devoted. Scheerbart was also a close friend of Richard Dehmel. His ideas influenced the theater Alfred Jarry.

Scheerbart was married to Anna Scheerbart, born summer, widowed Scherler from which in his collected works (Vol. 10.2) find three shorter texts.

Paul Scheer Bart died on October 15, 1915 due to a brain stroke. By Walter Mehring comes the unproven assertion Scheerbart died of exhaustion: he had as a convinced pacifist protest against the First World War denied any food intake. Paul Scheer beard was buried in the Park Cemetery Berlin light field (3 C No. 391 ). Executor was Hellmut draws - Tychsen.
