Paul Scherrer (politician)

Paul Scherrer ( born April 20, 1862 in Sedel, Münchwilen TG, † March 10, 1935 in Basel) was a Swiss politician.

Biography

Paul Scherrer, son of a small farmer and farmer, studied law in Munich and Basel. After receiving his doctorate in 1884, he worked as a lawyer and notary in Basel, where he also earned the 1895 Civil Rights. From 1897 he led his own law firm. In addition to his professional activities, Scherrer, the (FDP) belonged to the right wing of the Free Democratic Party, was also politically active. He was from 1887 to 1908 Member of the Grand Council, which he chaired three times (1894, 1896 and 1906). From 1896 to 1919 he represented the canton of Basel-Stadt in the Senate and was its president in 1907. As a long -standing member of the Corporate Executive of the FDP he belonged until his retirement from politics in 1919 to the leading party exponent.

In later years, Scherrer was executive director of large industries ( Ciba, Feldschlosschen and others).
