Paul Weinstein (athlete)

Paul Weinstein ( born April 5, 1878 in Walldorf, † August 16, 1964 in Bochum- Wiemelhausen ) was a German athlete.

In the high jump the Olympic Games 1904 in St. Louis, he scored with 1.77 m the same height as the second, Garrett Serviss from the U.S., but lost the following tie-break. In the pole vault, he was seventh.

He also participated in the 1906 Summer Olympics in Athens divided into five jumping events and javelin, but remained without medal success:

  • High Jump: seventh (1.65 m)
  • High jump from the state: in seventh place (1.25 m)
  • Long Jump: Place 16 ( in the preliminaries excreted 5.725 m)
  • Long jump from the state: No. 23 ( in the preliminaries excreted 2.65 m )
  • Triple Jump: 9th place ( in the preliminaries excreted 12.615 m)
  • Javelin: excreted with unknown width

Paul Weinstein, grandson of a converted Jew, began his younger brother Albert Weinstein for the LC Sportfreunde hall. From 1926 to 1948, the doctorate scientist was head of the Chemical Investigation Department of the City of Bochum. As vice chairman of the TuS Bochum ( a predecessor club VfL Bochum ), he was instrumental in the 1920s that Bochum, became a major athletics site, not least by the International Fighting Games.
