Paul Williams (rugby union)

Paul B. Williams ( born April 22, 1983 in Auckland, New Zealand ) is a New Zealand - Samoan rugby union player at the position of the circuit 's outer and Three Quarter. His older brother Gavin Williams is also a New Zealand - Samoan rugby union player. He is also the son of former New Zealand rugby international's Bryan Williams.

Williams went to the Aucklander Mount Albert Grammar School to school. In his youth he joined the rugby club Ponsonby RFC, as before, his father and brother. In the years 2001 and 2002, he and his brother win each with the Ponsonby RFC, the club championship of Auckland RFU, the so-called Gallaher Shield.

Although he still had not completed a single game in the New Zealand Rugby Championship ( NPC) with the Auckland RFU, he was in 2003, drafted as a 19- year-old from the New Zealand franchise Highlanders, who plays in the international Super Rugby League. In his sixth deployment, however, he broke his leg. This was the beginning of a three- year odyssey since his injury not healed properly and still inflamed.

After surgery he came in late 2003 as a repeated Draft in the cadre of Highlanders for the 2004 season. Shortly before the start of the season but he was removed out of the squad because the injury was not healed. In August 2004, therefore, he underwent another operation on his leg, so he was able to complete his first official rugby game for 22 months until February 2005. He played three games for the Second Team of Blues and three games for the Ponsonby RFC, who won the Gallaher Shield at the end of the club season. After these games, but came back problems with the leg, which had to be treated. As of September 2005, he then played five games for the Second Team of the Auckland RFU at the end of their season. Then he came back as a draft in the cadre of Highlanders for the 2006 season. Yet this time he was again removed just before the season out of the squad because his leg had ignited.

In June 2006 he joined after his leg was finally healed from Ponsonby RFC and the Auckland RFU for Christian Churcher club Marist Albion RC and Canterbury RFU. With Canterbury, who came in 2006 to the quarter finals of the New Zealand Championship, he played four games. It was his first competitive games at this level for three years. In 2007, he was then in the squad of super rugby team Crusaders, but where he ran aground a single time. But he denied later in the year with Canterbury all season games in the New Zealand Cup and reached the semi-finals of the province.

In 2008 he moved back from the Crusaders to the Highlanders, in which he played a strong season. He also was with Canterbury of New Zealand Rugby champions in the same year. After this success, he moved from Marist Albion RC and the Canterbury RFU to Ponsonby RFC and the Auckland RFU back. Furthermore, he moved in Super Rugby by the Highlanders to the blues. Because of his achievements, he was named in 2009 for the people of Auckland Player of the Year.

After the Super Rugby 2010 season he went to the English club Sale Sharks, who play in the English Premiership and European Challenge Cup after he was nominated in the same year for the Samoan national team. Since he has Samoan grandparents and had completed no senior international for New Zealand, he was eligible to play according to the statutes of the IRB World Association for Samoa. His brother Gavin since 2007 has been playing for Samoa.

Williams won with the Samoa Pacific Nations Cup in 2010 and took the national team a year later at the Rugby Union World Cup 2011 in his native New Zealand in part, but where they already were eliminated in the group stage.

After the World Cup, he moved in 2011 from Sale to the Paris club Stade Français in the French Top 14
