Paulos Mantovanis

Paulo Mantovani (Greek Παύλος Μαντοβάνης Pavlos Mandovanis; born November 21, 1945 in Larnaca, Cyprus British Crown Colony, † October 1, 2011 Nicosia, Cyprus) was a Cypriot Orthodox clergyman and Bishop of Kyrenia.

Life

Paulo Mantovani attended an English language school in Nicosia and then the Panzyprische High School, from which he graduated with the Apolytirion. After serving his 26 -month military service in the Cypriot National Guard, he began in 1968 to study at the Theological Faculty of the University of Athens, which was made possible by a grant from him of the Greek Orthodox Church. He closed it in 1972 with a Bachelor.

After his return to Cyprus he served in the Church of Cyprus, among others as a lay priest, sacristan and teacher at the seminar of the Apostle Barnabas. In 1977 he went to Oxford University where he studied history and theology. In 1985 he was here his doctorate with a thesis on The Eucharistic Theology of Nicholas Cavasilas Doctor of Philosophy. In 1980 he was ordained by Bishop Barnabas of Salamina a deacon, on October 4, 1981 by Archbishop Chrysostomos I. priest. On April 5, 1994, he was elected by the Holy Synod of Cyprus to the Bishop of Kyrenia. He was ordained on 10 April in the Evangelismos Church in Pallouriotissa, a district of Nicosia.

Mantovani died on 1 October 2011 at the age of 65 in a hospital in Nicosia, having already suffered a long time from leukemia.
