Chrysostomos I of Cyprus

Chrysostomos I ( born September 27, 1927 in Statos, Paphos district, † 22 December 2007) was a Cypriot priest and archbishop.

Chrysostomos I studied theology and literature at the University of Athens. In February 1951, he was ordained a deacon and priest in October 1961. He was elected Bishop of Constantia, before 1973 the Bishop of Paphos was founded in July 1968. Chrysostomos I was the successor of Makarios III. and as Archbishop of Cyprus from 1977 to 2006 head of the Cypriot Orthodox Church.

He was impaired health since a fall 2000 and could no longer perform the duties of managing the Church of Cyprus. After placement of the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I could Opel at a special synod in November 2006 His Holiness Chrysostomos II ( Englistriotis ) can be chosen as his successor.
