Pavel Molchanov

Pavel Alexandrovich Molchanov (Russian Павел Александрович Молчанов; * 6 Februarjul / 18 February 1893greg in Wolossowo, .. † October 1941 in Leningrad) was a Soviet meteorologist.

Pavel Molchanov was the inventor of the radiosonde. He took in 1932, after an invitation by German scientists on an expedition aboard the LZ 127 Graf Zeppelin in the Arctic part, and exhibited there in aerological observations with radiosondes. Molchanov was also rising up the first Soviet stratospheric balloon.

Honors

The research vessel Professor Molchanov was named after him.
