Pavlos Kontides

Pavlos Kontides (born 11 February 1990 in Limassol) is a Cypriot sailor.

Career

After graduating from high school Kontides studied shipbuilding in Southampton.

His first race in 1999, he played in an Optimist at the Cypriot Championships. In 2003, he won his first title at the National Youth Championships in the laser. In 2007 and 2008 he was twice in a row Junior World Champion. In 2009 he won the bronze medal at the Laser European Championship.

In 2008 he took in Beijing for the first time in the Olympic Summer Games and was part thirteenth in the laser. Four years later, he won in London in the same boat class the silver medal, the first medal for a Cypriot athlete in Olympic history.
