Pavol Dobšinský
Pavol Dobšinský ( born March 15, 1828 in Slavošovce, Empire Austria, today Slovakia, † October 22, 1885 in Drienčany, Austria - Hungary, now Slovakia) was a Slovak Lutheran minister, poet, collector of Slovak oral traditions and writers of the Stur - generation.
Life
Pavol Dobšinský was born in the family of a Protestant minister, and educated at the grammar schools of Rosenau and Miskolc. He attended secondary school in 1840, a Protestant Leutschau which he successfully completed in 1850. He was in the years 1858-1861 Professor of the Slovak language and literature in Schemnitz before it since 1861 was finally working as a pastor in Drienčany until his death.
Dobšinský is most known for his role in the collection and publication of Slovak oral tradition. However, he was also a poet, translator romantic poets (Lord Byron and Mickiewicz ) and the classics of world literature (Shakespeare, Rousseau ) and literary critic.
