Pedro Carmona

Pedro Francisco Carmona Estanga ( born July 6, 1941 in Barquisimeto) is a Venezuelan industrialist and president of FEDECAMARAS ( the Venezuelan Industry and Commerce ), the instrumental in the coup attempt against Hugo Chavez was involved in April 2002, under which on 12 April was used as a transitional president.

Under pressure from the public and sections of the military Carmona resigned after 36 hours, and Chavez was reinstated to office.

After the failure of the takeover Carmona was placed under house arrest and charged with rebellion and takeover of the Presidency. When he should be transferred to another prison, Carmona fled to the Colombian embassy, ​​where he applied for asylum.

On 27 May 2002 it was the Colombian government of President Andrés Pastrana Arango asylum. The Venezuelan government rejected this, accepted it but at the same time as legally valid. Carmona was allowed to leave the embassy and reached Bogotá with Colombian military aircraft. Since then, he lives in Miami.

In March 2011, Carmona stated that the Organization of American States ( OAS), at that time supported the coup attempt and had approved the dissolution of democratic institutions and elections.
