Diosdado Cabello

Diosdado Cabello Rondon ( born April 15, 1963 in El Furrial, Monagas ) is a Venezuelan politician, military and engineering. From 2004 to 2008 he was Governor of the State of Miranda. On April 13, 2002, he was during the kidnapping of Hugo Chavez for a day Acting President of Venezuela.

Cabello graduated from the Venezuelan Military Academy ( Academia Militar de Venezuela) and the Polytechnic University Institute of the army. On February 4, 1992, he took part in the failed coup attempt by the left national group of officers to Hugo Chávez against President Carlos Andrés Pérez. After the dismissal of Chávez from prison Cabello supported his campaign and was instrumental in the leadership of the Movimiento V República (Movement for the Fifth Republic). In 2002 he replaced Adina Bastidas as Vice President, what has been criticized by the opposition as " militarization of the Cabinet " by Chávez. During the coup d'état on 11 April 2002, Cabello was hiding, as the de facto power in the country was in the hands of Pedro Carmona Estanga. Only when this resigned after two turbulent days, Cabello was appointed interim president until Chavez was freed the next day by special units of the army.

A little later he gave up the post of prime minister and was the Interior and Justice Minister ( 2002-2003). In the elections for the post of governor of Miranda Cabello continued in 2004 with 52 % of the vote just against the Christian Democratic incumbent Enrique Mendoza by, who had ruled the province since 1995 and received 48 % of votes. Scandals
