Justice First

Primero Justicia (Spanish for Justice First) is a right-wing liberal party in Venezuela. Secretary General of the party is Tomás Guanipa, party leader Julio Borges is.

History

Primero Justicia was initially founded in 1992 as a civil movement against the decline of the legal system of a group of students led by Dr. Alirio Abreu Burelli, a judge of the Venezuelan Supreme Court and Vice- President of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights of the Organization of American States.

After the disintegration of the old Venezuelan two-party system of Acción Democrática and COPEI end of the 90s, the movement became a political party that received particular feed from disappointed supporters of COPEI.

During the constitutional referendum of 1999 she presented an unsuccessful liberal and the principle of representative democracy -oriented draft constitution as a counter- concept to the principle of participatory democracy -oriented and become " Bolivarian 'interpretive design of the Constituent Assembly.

During the failed coup attempt in 2002 Henrique Capriles, PJ mayor of the capital suburb Baruta in the state of Miranda wanted to search the Cuban embassy. In the same year, the party involved in the organization of a likewise unsuccessful general strike against Chavez. A year later, she called again for a general strike, which was also unsuccessful. In 2004 she was in charge of the failed referendum on the impeachment of Chávez.

In recent years, the party was able to consolidate its structure, not least in financial and organizational aid from abroad (eg by the CDU - affiliated Konrad Adenauer Foundation) is to lie.

Having previously been other opposition parties had withdrawn their candidature, Primero Justicia boycotted the parliamentary election on 4 December 2005, after its own description from criticism of the policies of the Chavez government and a fear of electoral fraud.

For the presidential elections on 3 December 2006 Primero Justicia had the party leader and former Member Julio Borges initially set up as a candidate, but then agreed with other opposition parties to Manuel Rosales, who, however, was defeated by Chavez.

In November 2008, Henrique Capriles won ( started as a general candidate of the opposition parties ), in the regional elections in Miranda the election for governor. Another politician of the party, Carlos Ocariz, was elected as mayor for the District of Sucre, which makes up part of Caracas.

For the general elections in Venezuela in 2010, the party got 6 MPs in the National Assembly.
