Pedro de Escobar

Pedro de Escobar (also Pedro del Puerto or Pedro de Porto; * 1465-1470 in Porto; † after 1535 probably in Évora ) was a Portuguese composer.

Life

From 1489 on, he worked as a singer in the court chapel of the Castilian royal court under Isabella I (Castile ). In 1497, Escobar returns to Portugal.

In 1507 he was recalled in the chapter to Seville, where he took the place of the master puerorum at the cathedral until his resignation 1514.

1521, he is in Portugal in the service of the monarch Manuel I. (Portugal ) as a teacher of the boys at the chapel of his son Alfonso. His influence is detectable to 1535.

His musical work was very extensive, but his works were collected in very few manuscripts of that era on the Iberian Peninsula.
