Pedro Humberto Allende

Pedro Humberto Allende Sarón ( born June 29, 1885 in Santiago de Chile, † August 17, 1959 ibid ) was a Chilean composer. He is considered the most important Chilean composer in the first half of the 20th century and founder of the modern Chilean music.

Allende studied from 1899 at the Conservatory of Santiago in Domingo Brescia, Luigi Stefano Giardia, Enrique Soro Barriga, Aurelio Silva and Federico Stöbel. Since 1904, he taught at the conservatory, from 1918 to 1946 as a professor of vocal music. In 1922, he led Spain in the performance of some of his works organized by the Unión Iberoamericana concerts. In 1928 he participated in the seminar organized by the League of Nations in Prague first International Folklore Congress.

This was followed by journeys through Austria, Czechoslovakia, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium and England. From 1932 to 1939 he lived in Uruguay, where he organized concerts, lectures held and acted as advisor to the government for teaching music. 1945, the National Music Prize he was awarded. His nephew, Juan Allende -Blin became known as a composer.
