Pedro Luis de Borja

Pedro Luis de Borja (* 1432, † September 26, 1458 ) was a younger brother of Rodrigo Borgia ( Pope Alexander VI. ) And nephew of Alfonso Borgia ( Pope Calixtus III. ).

Pedro Luis de Borja y Borja was the son of originating from Valencia Jofré de Borja i Escrivá de Balaguer (1390-1436), son of Rodrigo Gil de Borja i de Fennolet and Sibilia d' Escrivà i de Pròixita, and those coming from Aragon Isabel de Borja y Llançol (1390-1468), daughter of Juan Domingo de Borja and Francina Llançol born. His family name is written Llançol in Valencia. The general Spanish spelling is Lanzol.

After the elevation of his uncle Alfonso Borgia Pope Calixtus III. Pedro Luis were given because of the family ties various offices and honors. Thus the office of castellan of Castel Sant'Angelo he was granted in the spring of 1456, in the course of it he was given dominion over the provinces of Terni, Narni, Todi, Rieti, Orvieto, Spoleto, Foligno, Nocera, Assisi, Amelia, Civita Castellana, Nepi. This rapid rise of Pedro and also other members of the Borgia clan in the context of the papacy of Alfonso Borgia was considered by many other cardinals with resentment. This also played the Spanish origin of the Borgias a role.

So it happened after the death of Alfonso Borgia on August 6, 1458 a revolt against the " Catalans ", which resulted in Pedro was forced to flee from Rome. He died on the way to Civitavecchia at the age of only 26 years.
