Peetri, Harju County

Peetri ( in the vernacular also Peetriküla; historical German name Petrikülla ) is a village ( küla ) in the municipality in the district of Rae Harju in Estonia. It is adjacent to the capital Tallinn.

Geography

Peetri is the largest settlement in Estonia with the status of a village ( küla ). According to the official census Peetri had 1 January 2012 a population of 3,012.

In the village there are more than 500 houses, including several dozen apartment buildings. In the fall of 2009, the construction of a building complex was completed, are housed in the kindergarten and primary school, gymnasium, stadium and a public library.

The largest part of the village lies west of the highway E263 Tallinn - Tartu - Võru - Luhamaa, but it also includes part of Mõigu ( Moik ) east of the highway. The site covers an area of 4.60 km ².

History

The first written records Peetris from 1631 can be found in connection with a real estate transaction of the estate Mõigu. 1732 Estonian farmer Wanna- Peter resettled on the Hofland of Mõigu east of that great highway. From this settlement later Peetri village was born.

The oldest surviving building in Peetri is a former windmill dating from 1868, which ( German: " Peetri windmill " ) as a restaurant Peetri Tuulik used.
