The Pelorus, with a length of 115 meters one of the largest private yachts in the world. It was designed by Tim Heywood and built by the German shipyard Lürssen. Among the largest yachts in the world she takes a leading position.

History

The Saudi statesman Al Sheik Modhassan acquired the luxury yacht after its completion in 2003 for about 300 million U.S. dollars, but it has already sold the following year to the Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich.

The let the yacht from September 2004 to rebuild within six months for about 12 million euros from the Blohm Voss shipyard. During the renovations, a second helipad on the bow and stabilizers was installed and performed minor modifications to the mast, rear and the exhaust system. Together with the Eclipse and the Sussurro they formed the private fleet of the entrepreneur. The U.S. music and film producer David Geffen acquired in 2011 the yacht of Roman Abramovich. From late 2011 to May 2012, the yacht was for a new conversion at the New Jadewerft in Wilhelmshaven.

Equipment

The yacht is powered by two 3,900 kW Wärtsilä engines that can propel the ship to a maximum of 20 knots. Details about the inner life did not exist long, as the owner keeps a low profile always in relation to his private life.

The designer of the interior design is Terence Disdale. He has traveled for the equipment of the yacht around the world and has collected material for furniture and paneling. So he used the example of the ceiling of the lounge leaves of the banana tree, flooring oak and slate, the doors come from ancient Chinese temples. For all kinds of accessories he took fossilized tree roots from Malaysia, bark of the Philippines as well as driftwood from Bali. Other materials used are Bronze, Chenille, iron, nickel, tin and raffia.

The crew comprises 46 members who are all year round on board.
