Peltophorum

Peltophorum pterocarpum

Peltophorum is a genus in the legume family ( Fabaceae ). For the genus no German name has been apparently naturalized. In the two types Peltophorum africanum from Africa and Peltophorum pterocarpum from Southeast Asia to northern Australia, the German common name "Yellow Flame tree " are used.

Description

The Peltophorum species grow as stately trees. The leaves are bipinnate with many relatively small feathery leaves. The stipules fall off early.

The flowers are borne in terminal, racemose or paniculate inflorescences. The bracts are shed early. The hermaphrodite flowers are fünfzählig double perianth. The five sepals are slightly unequal. The five petals are slightly unequal. There are ten free stamens present with hairy at the base of stamens. The flat and elongated legumes contain one to four flat seeds.

Dissemination

The distribution of the genus Peltophorum ranges from the tropical to subtropical areas of America, Africa and Southeast Asia to northern Australia home.

  • Peltophorum pterocarpum ( DC.) Backer ex K. Heyne: syn: Baryxylum inerme ( Roxb. ) Pierre, Caesalpinia ferruginea Decne, Caesalpinia inermis Roxb, Inga pterocarpa DC, Peltophorum ferrugineum ( Decne. ) Benth.. .. and Peltophorum inerme ( Roxb. ) Náves Fern. ex - Vill., nom. inval.

The following species is currently not assigned to this genus:

  • Peltophorum brasiliense Urb. is now Caesalpinia violacea Standlschmaus.
