Penrose stairs

The Penrose stairs, also known as the impossible staircase, is a so-called " impossible figure ", which was discovered and published by the British mathematician Lionel Penrose and his son Roger Penrose in 1958. It is a variation on the Penrose triangle and is a two dimensional representation of a three-dimensional staircase with closed interior, runs back into itself, so that an illusion is created that she / leads down infinitely high. Thus, it is physically impossible and only a perception deception.

In the article, Impossible objects: A special type of visual illusion 1958 we first took pictures of this staircase and other impossible figures, such as the Penrose triangle. One of Roger Penrose sent to the Dutch graphic artist MC Escher copy of the article inspired this to be finished several woodcuts perspective with impossible objects.
