Penta nitroaniline is an explosive. It consists of a benzene ring having an amino group (-NH2) and five nitro groups (- NO2) as a substituent.
The nitration of 3,5- dinitroaniline with anhydrous nitrating leads in 52 % yield to the Penta nitroaniline. By oxidation of penta nitroaniline with peroxodisulfuric Hexanitrobenzol arises.
