People's Party (Latvia)

The Tautas partija (TP, People's Party) was a political party in Latvia. She was a member of the European People's Party and described himself as a conservative. Founder and first chairman of the party until 2002 Andris was Šķēle. After the official retirement from politics Šķēles Atis Slakteris presided.

In the parliamentary elections on 5 October 2002, it reached 20 of the 100 seats in the Latvian parliament Saeima ( 1998: 24). Along with the New Era (JL ), the First Party of Latvia (LPP ) and the alliance of Greens and Farmers (OCD) was the TP until 2010 part of a coalition government and placed six ministers in the Cabinet. At the 2010 general election the Tautas Partija, the LPP / LC took u.ä organizations in a common list - Par Labu Latviju! - Part, which achieved a total of 8 seats. Due to a resolve of the Congress, the former ruling party was dissolved on July 9, 2011 .. In August, a court decision on recoveries due to unauthorized transfers from the state budget in the amount of 1.03 million lats was due.
