Peppino Turco

Giuseppe " Peppino " Turco ( * March 7, 1846 in Naples, † October 14, 1903 Naples ) was an Italian journalist, poet and librettist.

Turco wrote for newspapers and magazines in Naples and Rome, such as the satirical journal Capitan Fracassa. But he became famous for his popular song lyrics in Neapolitan dialect. Fruit of his collaboration with Luigi Denza in the thermal baths of Castellammare di Stabia in the summer of 1880 was the song Funiculì, Funiculà that gave the impetus for a wave of internationally successful Neapolitan songs.
