Per Berthelsen

Per Berthelsen (* 1950 in Qeqertarsuaq ) is a Greenlandic politician of the Social Democratic Siumut.

He is the son of Ane Sofie Egede and Rasmus Berthelsen, former mayor of Nuuk. He attended the Soro Akademi and received his master degree in 1975 Holbæk. Since 1988, he is married to Helene Broberg, who brought two daughters into the marriage, Kristine and Julie. Julie Berthelsen is a successful pop singer in Denmark.

Policy

Bert Helsens career began in the Centre Party Akulliit Partiiat. As a political convert he became a wanderer between the parties. In 1999 he moved to Siumut. After expulsion from the party in 2001 he founded the Democratic Party, which he chaired from 2002 to 2007 /08. He then returned to the Social Democrats.

Since 1999 he has been a deputy in the Greenland Parliament and Member of the Board since 2005. After the local elections in 2008 he became vice mayors of large municipalities Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq whose office is located in the Greenland capital Nuuk. In the autonomous government of Hans Enoksen 2009 he was briefly finance and foreign minister.

2011 forced Berthelsen a severe spinal cord inflammation for temporary withdrawal from active politics. He is First Vice President of the Parliament.

Rock Band Sumé

1972 was formed in the Danish study Soro the first Greenlandic rock band Sumé. The founding members included Malik Høegh ( vocals, guitar, songwriter ) and Per Berthelsen (guitar, vocals and composer ). Their debut album from 1973 sumut was an expression of a new Greenlandic self- consciousness. Sumé combined American and British rock music like the Beatles with elements of traditional drum dance of the Inuit. The angry Greenland texts were directed primarily against the cultural alienation by Denmark. It was followed by an appearance at the Roskilde Festival 1973. 1974 appeared Inuit nunaat, two years later Sume was published. In 1977, the group split up, and the members returned gradually return to their homeland. Since 1988 Sumé occurs on special occasions again. 1993 led to a fourth album, Persersume. A scrapbook came out in 1988.

Per and Malik were also referred to as Greenland, John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Their songs are now considered classics of modern Greenlandic culture.
