Per Brahe the Younger

Per Brahe the Younger ( born February 18, 1602 Castle Rydboholm, Uppland, † September 2, 1680 ) was a Swedish Empire Drost, Count Visingsborg and Governor-General of Finland.

Once Per Brahe was in 1629 elected as District Marshal and 1630 Imperial Council, he inherited from his uncle, the county Visingsborg in Småland. Between 1637 and 1641, and 1648-1654, he was Governor-General of Finland. During this time, he had to create many Finnish cities such as Raahe, Lappeenranta, Kajaani and the old Hamina. Under his leadership, the City of Helsinki was moved from the river to its present Vanda position near the sea. The founding of the Academy at Turku, now the University of Helsinki, whose chancellor he was for 40 years until his death took place, with strong support Per Brahe.

1641 Per Brahe was the Swedish Empire Drost, that is to the top officials of the state, appointed. In his county Per Brahe had converted the castle on the island Visingsö and build two more locks. By the lake, which is the opposite island, he put 1652 to the place Brahe Grenna, which today bears the name Gränna.

1680 died in the castle of the Count Bogesund in the landscape Uppland. Shortly thereafter took over King Charles XI. the county Visingsborg in his possession.
