Per-Olov Löwdin

Per- Olov Löwdin ( born October 28, 1916 in Uppsala, † October 6, 2000 ) was a Swedish theoretical chemist and physicist.

Löwdin was 1960-1983 Professor at the University of Uppsala and in parallel to 1993 at the University of Florida. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in the Department of Chemistry, University of Konstanz.

He provided significant contributions to quantum chemistry, especially its orthogonalization, the symmetric orthogonalization.
