Perșani Mountains

The persani Mountains (Eng. also Geisterwald, rum. Munţii persani ) is a small mountain range west of Brasov in Romania. It is counted among the Eastern Carpathians. However, its higher southern section is actually an offshoot of the Southern Carpathians.

The mountain range separates the Transylvanian Basin in the west of the Kronstadt Valley ( Depresiunea Brasovului ) in the east, which essentially corresponds to the historical Burzenland.

The Romanian name derives from the village of persani, the German from the village Apata (German spirit ).

The main ridge runs in a north -south direction and has a length of about 60 km. He is broken in the congestion Defileul RACOS from the Olt. The highest peak is the Varful Cetăţii with 1104 m, in the northern part of the Varful Dugău with 1011 m.

  • In the southwest of the foothills of the Fagaras Mountains,
  • In the southeast of Măgura Codlei - ridge and from the Burzenländer Valley,
  • In the north- east by Baraolt Mountains.

Description

The persani Mountains consists mainly of basalt, shale and flysch. It is mostly forested. For the most part the elevations are rounded. However, the diversity of the rock led to the emergence of interesting natural phenomena (basalt formations, caves, canyons).

Tourism

The mountains are hardly touched by tourism. There are few marked trails and hardly accommodations.
