PESA Bydgoszcz SA Pojazdy Szynowe ( PESA, German: Railway Bromberg AG) is a company from the Polish city of Bydgoszcz, which specializes in the construction of rail vehicles and trains.

History

On July 27, 1851 repair operation of the Prussian Eastern Railway was opened in the then Prussian, later German city of Bydgoszcz. It originally consisted of a loco shed and a forge. 1855 an administration building and 1856 building a repair for steam locomotives and cars was built. Beginning of the 20th century up to four locomotives and ten cars were completed daily. With 1370 employees and 70 apprentices in 1907 it was the largest employer in the city. When the city fell after the end of World War I in Poland, the company introduced in 1920 then trains for the Polish State Railways, restore, it said PKP Warsztaty Główne I kl. ( Main workshop of Class 1 ). 1939 to 1945, it became a kingdom railway workshop Bromberg. The Second World War was the work without any major damage or destruction. 1950 was designated as all repair works as ZNTK. In the fifties up to 5200 people were employed there. In 1982 it was finally incorporated into the Polish State Railways.

After the end of communism in Poland, the company was spun off in 1991 from the Polish State Railways. In 1995 the factory was taken over by the then management. Were initially repaired unit trains, soon came also perform other tasks such as double -decker cars and sleeping and couchette it. 2001, it was converted into a holding company; with the privatization was accompanied by the change of name to Pojazdy Szynowe PESA Bydgoszcz Spółka Akcyjna Holding. The emphasis was now placed on the construction of new vehicles.

The present premises of the vehicle manufacturer is located in close proximity to the station Bydgoszcz Główna, the main train station of the city. With the 214 M of the first self-developed diesel railcars in 2001 was presented. In 2004, the first electric railcar (PKP series EN 59). The construction of trams was taken. One of the rail vehicles, which are built by PESA include the railcar series ED59, ED74, ED95, SA103, SA106, SA131, SA132, SA133 and LINK as well as trams of type 120N, 121N and 122N.

PESA also builds railcars for the Italian regional railways Ferrovie del Sud Est and Ferrovie Nord Milano, the Bavarian Regentalbahn AG and the Lithuanian Lietuvos Geležinkeliai. 2012, a contract for the supply of up to 470 DMUs of type link with the PESA closed the German railway.

2012 was presented with the GAMA, the first electric locomotive.
