Petar Bogdan

Petar Bogdan Bakschew Petar Bogdan ( Bulgarian Петър Богдан Бакшев; * 1601 Chiprovtsi, Ottoman Empire, † 1674 ) was a Bulgarian Catholic bishop, historian and a key figure of the Bulgarian liberation movement.

Life and work

Petar Bogdan established the Bulgarian Catholic Eparchy again and was one of the organizers of the Chiprovtsi Uprising against Ottoman rule. He is probably the author of the first history of Bulgaria (Rome 1638, Italian).
