Petasos

A petasos (Greek: πέτασος ) was a flat felt or straw hat with a wide, round brim that appears often also provided with four arcuate cuts in ancient Greece. The petasos of women was higher than that of men.

He came from Thessaly and served with the chlamys as costume of ephebes. With the winged petasos Hermes is usually presented.

The Romans and Greeks wore similar hats on the country and on trips in the city usually only in the theater for protection against the sun.
