Peter Allen (composer)

Peter Allen ( born February 18, 1952 in Ottawa, Ontario ) is a Canadian composer.

Life

Allen holds a degree in composition at the University of Manitoba, inter alia, Robert Turner. In 1975 he took his degree there and took after further study at McGill University on. Until 1980 he was active as a keyboard player for various music groups and then worked as an organist at St. Mary's Cathedral in Winnipeg.

The mid-1980s he took up further studies and devoted himself in the film music. For this, he moved to Los Angeles. Since 1988 he has worked as a composer for film music and since then has worked on more than 100 productions, many of which were made for television. A director, with whom he collaborated on several occasions, is Michael Bafaro.

Allen owns in British Columbia a private music studio. He is a member of the Canadian League of Composers and co-founded the Manitoba Composers Association.

In 2006 he was awarded for his work on Flower & Garnet with the Leo Award.
