Peter Balazs (mathematician)

Peter Balazs ( born December 11, 1970 in Tulln an der Donau) is an Austrian mathematician at the Institute of Acoustics Research Vienna of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Life

He completed his studies in 2001 at the University of Vienna with a thesis on the subject of polynomials over groups with distinction. In June 2005, he completed a doctorate on Regular and Irregular Gabor Multipliers with Application to Psychoacoustic Masking at the Numerical Harmonic Analysis Group, Faculty of Mathematics, University of Vienna ( NuHAG ). Through this cooperation, he got the option to Harmonic Analysis and Statistics for Signal and Image Processing EU Network ( HASSIP ) at the Laboratoire d'Analyse, topology, probabilites ( LATP ), CMI and LMA, Centre national de la recherche scientifique Marseille November 2003 to study until April 2004 and in August 2005 at the fyma, UCL in Louvain- La -Neuve.

Peter Balazs is head of the working group math and signal processing in acoustics since 1999 and member of the Institute since 2008. 2011 was the Habilitation of Balazs for the subject of Mathematics at the University of Vienna. Since 2012 he is Director of the Institute of Acoustics Research.

Research

Peter Balazs wrote his interdisciplinary research, especially with the combination of mathematics and acoustics. Particularly in the areas

  • Frame - theory
  • Time -frequency analysis
  • Signal processing and implementation
  • Modeling of masking effects
  • Other applications in acoustics, such as Speaker recognition.
