Peter Brock

Peter Geoffrey Brock ( born February 26, 1945 in Hurstbridge, Victoria, † September 8, 2006 in Gidgegannup, Western Australia ) was an Australian racing driver. His fans called him " Peter Perfect ", " King of the Mountain " or only short and sweet " Brocky ". His father was a mechanic and encouraged his interest in cars. His racing career began with Brock Touring Car and Rally Cross racing; internationally known he was when he first time in 1972 the Bathurst 500 ( from 1973 but Bathurst 1000) won. In all, he could (hence "King of the Mountain" ) decide to nine times for these prestigious Australian Competition at Mount Panorama. In 2003 he won the bargain, along with his teammate Greg Murphy, Todd Kelly and Jason Bright, the 24 - hour race at Bathurst.

The 61 -year-old Brock died in an accident in the Targa West rally near Perth (Western Australia), as he on wet pavement in a difficult driving curve control of his Daytona Sportscar lost in the second special stage ( Gidgegannup ) and with the driver's side hit a tree. His co-driver Mick Hone survived the severe accident injured.
