Peter Collins (speedway rider)

Peter Collins ( born March 24, 1954 in Urmston, Manchester, United Kingdom ) is a British speedway and long- track racer. It was 1976 in Chorzow individual world champion in 1987 and finished his career.

Career

1971 Collins celebrated in Rochdale his debut in the British League, where the New Zealander Ivan Mauger discovered him and brought him to the Belle Vue Aces in Manchester, where he remained until the end of his career.

Already at the age of 19 Peter Collins became European Champion and won the 1974 World Team Championships with England. In 1984 he won with compatriot Chris Morton in Lonigo / Italy the Best Pairs Championship. Also on the long course counted Peter Collins to the world elite: a 3rd place in 1978 in Mühldorf and the World Championship in 1986 in parish churches were his best results in this web sports discipline.

Collins was elected in 1976 in England, for racers of the year, Formula 1 World Champion James Hunt and Barry Sheene Road World Champion. End of 2011, Collins suffered a brain haemorrhage, but from which he recovered. From the Queen he was awarded the MBE medal.
