Peter Crüger

Peter Crüger, also: Peter Krüger, Piotr Kruger ( born October 20, 1580 Königsberg, † June 6, 1639 in Danzig) was a German philologist, astronomer and mathematician.

Life

Crüger had studied at the University of Königsberg, Leipzig University and the University of Wittenberg, among others, Tycho Brahe and Johannes Kepler. In Wittenberg he acquired in 1606 the degree of Master of Arts, and went in the following year at the Gymnasium of Danzig.

Here he assumed the professorship of poetry and mathematics and trained among others Johannes Hevelius and Andreas Gryphius from which he has subsequently influenced heavily. In Gdansk, he belonged to the circle of the poet Martin Opitz. Crüger also designed several astronomical instruments.

He has authored numerous papers, the trigonometry concerning, published in 1612 his " Trigonometria " and 1634 's " practice trigonometriae logarithmicae ". His work in astronomy include the 1615 published " De hypothetico Systemate coeli ", the 1619 -released " Uranodromus cometicus " and in 1630 passed into the pressure " Cupediae astro sophiae ".

He also created the chronological work of a calendar for the year 1698 is known, which is published under the title " Diatribe paschalis from the right Feyerzeit of the Jewish and Christian Easter ".

The lunar crater Crüger is named after him.
